GIFT IDEAS
- Pair your ribbon tassel bookmark with a book (and maybe a bottle of wine?), and you have a beautiful, thoughtful handmade gift!
- This would be a great teacher gift too. Customize a bookmark tassel for them by using their favorite colors and letter beads. Since it may be tough to choose a book for them, just pair it with a gift card to a local bookstore or Barnes and Noble. For “extra credit,” throw in a Starbucks gift card too! Imagine how much fun they’ll have browsing a bookstore with a coffee in-hand.
WHY NOT MAKE IT A GROUP ACTIVITY?
Consider doing this craft at your next book club meeting. Have everyone bring their ribbons of choice and you supply the wire, hooks, and jump rings! If you’re a craft-lover like me, then you likely have a ton of ribbon laying around just waiting for that next project!
STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL

Step 1: Layout your collection of ribbons on a table.

Step 2: Fold your ribbons in half (an upside down U.) Cut a piece of craft wire to the length of your ribbons. Choose a bead, charm, in my case a large pearl to be at the very top of your tassel bookmark.

Step 3: Fold your wire in half and string the bead or charm, pulling it to just about the very end of the folded wire, leaving a tiny loop.

Step 4: Add a dab of hot glue to both ends of the charm or bead, securing the bead to the wire.

Step 5: Drape your bundle of ribbons across the center of your folded wire. Arrange your ribbons in a way that you like. I like to try to distribute them so that there aren’t too many of the same strands bundled together.

Step 6: Lay your bundle of ribbons down on the table and tie a knot in your wire, securing them tightly.

Step 7: At this point, you can either string beads on your wires or clip them off.

Step 8: For this tassel bookmark, I chose to clip them off.

Step 9: Press the small wire tails down onto the ribbon bundle.

Step 10: Add a dab of hot glue over the pressed down short ends of the wire to ensure they stay in place.

Step 11: Once glue dries, flip your tassel over and slide a jump ring through your looped wire at the top of your bead. Then, slide a bookmark hook through the jump ring.

Optional Step 12: Add a small charm, bead, or jewel to the jump ring for a little extra interest.

I made this next one for my sister-in-law, who is a big VCU Rams fan and an avid reader. She turned 30 this year, so we gifted her this bookmark along with some books on her wish list!
